Quality & Innovative Learning for All Ages
People in Coweta and Fayette Counties continue to prefer to live here because of the quality of the local schools. Excellent public schools with top-notch academic programs, first-rate athletics, and first-rate facilities are found in both counties. In both counties, there are a variety of private schools as well.
The Coweta County education system is made up of 19 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, 3 high schools plus the 8th grade Charter College & Career Academy, the Central Education Center, Winston Dowdell Academy, Burwell Academy and Empower Virtual Program. It educates over 22,855 children in Coweta County. The Donald W. Nixon Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts, which is owned by the system and provides access to the Fine Arts for Coweta County students of all ages, is a further jewel in the crown. Year after year, Coweta County schools are recognized for their excellence. The 2022 graduation rate was 90.5%, significantly higher than the 84.1% state average. In 2022, the average SAT score for high school students in Coweta County was 1170, 18 points higher than the average for Georgia, and 42 points higher than the national average.
The Coweta County School System offers students non-traditional teaching settings, customized study, and a variety of enrichment options both on and off the school grounds in addition to regular learning environments. In order to offer programs like dual enrollment, virtual learning, online courses, and work-based learning, the Coweta County School System collaborates with community groups, small businesses, the Newnan-Coweta Chamber, the Coweta County Development Authority, universities, and West Georgia Technical College. These initiatives aid in ensuring that graduates are ready for postsecondary education or entry into the workforce of the twenty-first century.
The Fayette County Schools system consists of an adult community school, five high schools, five middle schools, and fourteen elementary schools. In the county, there are more than 20,048 registered pupils. Three non-traditional schools are also part of the Fayette County Schools system: the Fayette Virtual Academy, Horizon Academy, and Open Campus Academy. Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses are provided by the school system to help students get ready for both college and the workforce.
Fayette County Schools had already implemented virtual education for middle and high school students through the Fayette Virtual Academy before Covid-19. While the academy offers on-site assistance for one-on-one work and test taking, the virtual academy enables students to complete classes, assignments, and projects from home.
Students who benefit from structured learning environments and non-traditional learning approaches are welcome at the Horizon Academy. Students can learn at their own pace and take charge of their education in a blended learning environment.
Dual enrollment, technical education, and work-based learning are all included in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) center. Dual enrollment enables high school students to enroll in college courses while still in high school and gain credit for them, avoiding the need to repeat those courses in college. Dual enrollment allows students to finish high school and enroll in college, with some of them possibly being considered sophomores.
The high school graduation rate in Fayette County is 89.81%, significantly higher than the state average of 84.1%. Students’ average ACT and SAT scores in 2022 were 23.5 and 1132, respectively, higher above the state norms of 21.6 for the ACT and 1052 for the SAT. Numerous high schools, middle schools, and primary schools in Fayette County have received the Greatest Gains Award and the Highest Performing Award over the years. The three-year average CCRPI Achievement Score for the top-performing schools must be in the 93rd percentile or higher. Schools must have three-year average CCRPI Progress Scores that are at least 93 percentile-ranked in order to achieve the greatest gains.
Numerous private schools are available in Coweta and Fayette counties to accommodate students with various needs, academic strengths, and extracurricular interests. Numerous churches and private establishments provide childcare and preschool services to county residents. There are also reputable private institutions that provide K–12 school-age children with a full academic and extracurricular program.
Trinity Christian School, Central Christian School, and The Heritage School are the three private high schools in Coweta County. Along with high school, these private schools also provide kindergarten through middle school. The Carolyn Barron Montessouri School, Orchard Hills Academy, and Shoal Creek Baptist are three additional private schools that offer kindergarten through middle school.
Through its multidisciplinary curriculum and fully integrated arts program, the Counterpane Montessouri School in Fayetteville offers children from kindergarten through high school the chance to flourish academically and creatively. Ages 3 to 6 years old make up Primary, followed by 6 to 12 years old for Lower School, and then 12 to 18 years old for Upper School at Counterpane.
Our Lady of Mercy, Grace Christian Academy, The Forest School, and The Campus in Peachtree City are among additional private high schools in Fayette County. In addition, Fayette County is home to a number of elementary through middle schools. These are only a few of the nearby private schools. At the conclusion of this section, you’ll find a list of all the schools in both counties.
