Students gain from both structured and non-traditional quality learning.

The top-notch local school systems are a major factor in families' decisions to settle here. Excellent public schools with top-notch academic programs, athletic departments, and facilities can be found in both counties. In addition, both counties have a large number of private schools.

There are fourteen elementary schools, five middle schools, an adult community school, and five high schools in the Fayette County School System. There are more than 20,000 enrolled students in the county. The educational system also includes the Fayette LIFE Academy, which is home to three nontraditional schools: Open Campus Academy, Horizon Academy, and Fayette Virtual Academy. Career and technical education (CTE) courses are offered at the school system's Center of Innovation (COI) campus to help students get ready for success in college and the workplace.

While the on-site academy facilitates one-on-one work and test taking, the virtual academy allows students to finish classes, assignments, and projects from home.

Students who gain from both structured and non-traditional learning activities are invited to the Horizon Academy. Students can take control of their education and learn at their own speed in a mixed learning environment.

Technical education, dual enrollment, and work-based learning are all offered by the Career and Technical Education (CTE) center. By enrolling in and earning credit for college courses while still in high school, dual enrollment enables high school students to avoid repeating certain classes. After completing dual enrollment, some students may be classified as sophomores and be eligible to enroll in college.

Excellent schools in Fayette County continue to score highly on tests and have outstanding graduation rates. Fayette County's graduation rate rose from 94.7% in 2024 to 95.3% in 2025, while Georgia's climbed to an all-time high of 87.2%.

Fayette County's average SAT score was 1124, 95 points higher than the state average and 128 points higher than the national average. With a composite average of 23.5, ACT scores the third highest in the state among schools that have over 200 test takers. The national average is 19.4, while the state average is 21.4. Starr’s Mill High had the 21st best score in the state (25.1), with McIntosh High 24th (24.7).

Over 22,500 students are served by Coweta County's three high schools, eight middle schools, and eight elementary schools. Additionally, it comprises the Central Educational Center, Winston Dowdell Academy, Burwell Academy, Charter College & Career Academy for eighth graders, and the Empower Virtual Program. The Donald W. Nixon Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts, which is owned by the system and provides access to the Fine Arts for Coweta County students of all ages, is another jewel in the crown.

Coweta County high school students continue to outperformed both the state and national averages. In 2025 Coweta County's average SAT score was 1077, which was 80 points higher than the national average and 47 points higher than the Georgia average.

Additionally, Coweta County's ACT scores exceeded both the national and state averages. The composite average score for the county was 21.8, while the national average was 19.4 and the Georgia average was 21.4.

Graduation rates: For the class of 2025, the percentage of high school students in the Coweta County School System who graduated on time rose to an all time high of 92.4%.

The rate of 92.4 percent this year is higher than the previous high of 91.7 percent set by the Coweta County School System last year. The state of Georgia's 2024 graduation rate increased almost two percent to 87.2%, the highest number in Georgia ever.

Coweta County high schools have employed a variety of tactics and resources to raise graduation rates, such as:

• Instruction from excellent professors that is both difficult and pertinent.

• Each student has a unique graduation plan that is regularly reviewed by the faculty.

For students who struggle in class, there are opportunities for Saturday school, content-based support, and online credit recovery.

• Before and after school, as well as throughout the day, tutoring is offered.

• Out-of-classroom student support services, such as community mentors, online facilitators, ELEVATE Coweta Students, and staff and counseling advisers.

ELEVATE Coweta kids collaborates with the most vulnerable kids.

• Math and ELA screening for students begins when they go from the eighth to the ninth grade and continues with each grading period over a student's high school career.

• Creative scheduling options, such as work-based learning, dual enrollment, and accelerated and advanced learning through the Central Educational Center, with a concentration on math and literacy.

• Setting up teacher professional learning communities and tracking the effects of those opportunities by subject and department.

• Parental content nights to raise family understanding and support for academic content, high school schedules, and graduation requirements.

• Directing Coweta County's recent short-term federal funding toward more teaching staff, tutoring, and other programs that have improved student assistance and addressed learning loss.

The Coweta County School System provides students with individualized study plans, non- traditional learning venues, and a range of enrichment activities both on and off school property in addition to standard learning environments. Programs like virtual learning, online courses, work-based learning, and dual enrollment are provided by the Coweta County School System in collaboration with universities, West Georgia Technical College, small businesses, the Coweta County Development Authority, and community organizations. Graduates of these programs are better equipped to pursue higher education or the workforce of the twenty-first century.

Private schools in both counties provide families with diverse academic settings that emphasize small class sizes, individualized instruction, and strong community values. In Coweta, options include Trinity Christian School, The Heritage School, and Central Christian School, each offering excellent academics along with athletics and arts programs. Fayette County families often consider St. Mary’s Academy and Grace Christian Academy for faith- based education. Montessori education is also available through Counterpane Montessori School, which provides child-centered, hands-on learning for elementary students in a nurturing environment that encourages independence and curiosity. Together, these private schools expand educational choices across the two counties.

For many, another important part of their child’s education is college planning. Alternative Schools & Programs

While both counties’ public schools offer programs tailored for different learning challenges, there are also private and not for profit schools in the area that offer alternative environments for students who benefit from smaller class sizes, individualized instruction, or specialized therapeutic supports.

Southern Raised Learning in Peachtree City offers a small classroom setting for students with academic, social, or behavioral challenges. They reach every student individually at their academic level and infuse the student with confidence and motivation to help them achieve success. A low stress, encouraging, loving atmosphere creates a space where learning comes naturally.

Joseph Sams School in Fayetteville provides educational training and speech/language therapies for children with mild to severe intellectual or physical disabilities, emphasizing life skills and independence.

The Forest School believes The ideal hero is a child who is ready for a real-life focus—learning that builds practical knowledge, strong problem-solving, and clear accountability, not just completing worksheets. If you’re worried your child could leave school unprepared for real life, this model is designed to change that trajectory with high-quality, hands-on learning that keeps heroes engaged and motivated day after day.

Their niche is real skills for real life—giving heroes the tools they need to find their calling and to succeed in college, careers, and real life, through skill-based, fact-based learning that grows critical thinking, relational networks, and real-world problem solving.

They aim to be purpose-driven and highly effective: heroes aren’t passive recipients of instruction—they practice ownership, build real skills, and produce tangible evidence of learning in ways that are well-planned, hands-on, engaging, and motivating. Their Guides (their term for teachers) coach heroes toward real competence and responsibility, with clear expectations and feedback that make progress visible.

ClearWater Academy focuses on learners with autism spectrum disorders and other neurodevelopmental challenges, blending academics with assistive technology, social-emotional curriculum, and therapeutic services. Their overall educational focus is meeting each individual student exactly where they are and helping them make solid progress in each subject area. They have an intensive social emotional program that helps our students to thrive socially and be able to advocate for themselves.

Lighthouse Special Education Academy serves individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities through a faith-based program tailored to their unique needs.

Together, these public and private choices create a network of alternative school options in Fayette and Coweta that can help families find the right educational fit, whether the goal is inclusion in general classrooms with support, therapies integrated into daily learning, or specialized environments that honor each child’s pace and potential.

Supplemental Support & Enrichment Options

• Brain Balance Peachtree City – Program combining sensory, academic, and behavioral support strategies (serves both Coweta and Fayette areas).

• Spark Thinking -Progressive Tutoring of America – Specialized tutoring and intervention services for students with learning differences.
